Not got a solution yet, although finding out some interesting things. Here's my simple application page in the _layouts folder: I'll ask the stupid question as I'm new to MOSS, is the bit I need to figure out to make my menu bar to display from somewhere else in my site navigation structure and if so could this be done as a normal page in my site rather than in the _layouts folder? It's still using the application master which is fine (I can change to my master page) but I must be missing a step out (?) because when I go to the page it displays the root menu from my site. I've tried creating a simple aspx page in the location you specified, which is a modified version of one of the application pages I found in there. How do make my utility pages display the same menu as the page that called them so the user experience is not changed and they think they are still in their divisional area? Or is there another way to achieve the same behaviour? I really do not want the user to loose their menus and I'd prefer not to have to try to build duplicated functionality for each divisional sub-site. However as soon as you follow one of these links, the menu's change and show where the utility pages really lives and not the divisional sub-menu I really want them to still see. I have added menu links (using the navigation settings under Site Actions) to each divisional sub-site so all users can click on these menu links to get to the utility pages. While the users can go to this shared location I want to make the users think they are still in their division sub-site. My utility pages live in a shared 'group' area that users of all divisions can access. My site collection is split into several business divisions, defined by sub-sites, that are configured to have their own menus. Specifically I need to create some utility pages in my site collection to do numerous tasks. I notice that some SharePoint application pages will keep the navigation context from the previous page, for example if you are in a sub site that has it's own menu defined and you click My Settings under the login button, the top bar menu does not change on the my settings page (it shows the subsite menu still).
